Dutchman’s Tree Block Tutorial for
52 Twisted Traditional Block Quilt Along
Finished Block Size – 8.5” x 8.5”
By twisting the traditional block ‘Dutchman’s Puzzle’ we can create a block that is a fun twist of trees.Cutting Instructions

Fabric A – Trees 4 – 2.5” x 4.5”
(same or scrappy)

Fabric B – Background8 – 2.5” squares
8 – 2.5” x 2.25” rectangles

Fabric C – Trunks4 – 1” x 2.5”
Directions
Flying Geese
The tree tops are made by a flying geese block.

Draw a diagonal line on the wrong side of both of your fabric B squares. Place one square right sides together with your Fabric A rectangle.

Stitch right on the line you just drew.

Trim the corner off and press towards the corner fabric.

Repeat on the other side. Stitch, trim and press.

Your first ‘tree top’ is complete. Repeat with the remaining 2.5” x 4.5” rectangles of Fabric A.

Next, take your Fabric C and stitch one 2.5” x 2.25” rectangle of Fabric B to one side and the other 2.5” x 2.25” rectangle of Fabric B to the other side. Press towards the trunk. Repeat to make four 2.5” x 4.5” ‘trunk’ rectangles.

Layout your eight rectangles in the orientation shown above and sew together.

And with that…your ‘Dutchman’s Tree’ block is finished!

Hi, would you know the name of the background fabric you used in this block? I'm looking for something like this to make your Dresden Houses quilt, but haven't been able to find anything I like yet. at least nothing that is still available!
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry Karen! It was in my stash for a long time and then I used it. I think I found it in 2013 when I did my house and tree quilt along ... maybe search etsy or ebay for 'house fabric'? ... sorry I'm not more help.
